Kobori Enshu-ryu Tea Offering Ceremony at Kashima Shrine, September 5th, 2026
The heavy early-morning rain ceased, and by the afternoon, a crystal-clear blue sky spread over Kashima Shrine.
It was the final day of the Mifune-matsuri (boat festival), a grand ceremonial event held once every twelve years. The Kobori Enshu Ryu offered a ceremonial tea presentation performed by the Grand Master Soho.
At the naorai (the post-ceremony banquet), enjoyed the sacred sake "Ararefuri (the hail falls)."
Promising to meet again next year, departed the sacred groves of Kashima amidst the glow of the autumn sunset.
Praying to the God of Kashima as the hail falls
I came here as part of the Imperial army.
