Kobori Enshu-ryu Oiemoto Hatsugama at “Tokoan” on January 18th, 2026
The first tea ceremony "Hatsugama" of the Kobori Enshu-ryu the year was held again this year at Tokoan in the Imperial Hotel.
The thick tea ceremony was held in the small room, performed by the Grand Master Soho. Master Sasaki Soichi served as Koken, assistant. This was the first time we had performed in a small room since the COVID-19 pandemic. Both the tea and sweets were delicious.
The thin tea ceremony was held in the larger room. The Grand Master's mother served as Koken. After the tea, we drew lots. Everyone drew wonderful prizes, and smiles abounded.
The light meal was“Nadaman”. We enjoyed a little sake while lively conversation flowed with our fellow attendees.
The first tea ceremony of the year is always blessed with fine weather. This year too, we headed home under clear skies.
